Digital adverts are great for building brand awareness. An effective advert may even generate direct leads. But just where should you display adverts? And what types of adverts are appropriate for these advertising platforms? This guide delves into 6 different places where you can display digital adverts and how to use each one effectively.

Social media

Standing out on social media often involves using strong visuals, whether this be an image or a video. This can be supported with text and emojis. Facebook is by far the most popular and competitive advertising space – it’s worth using a Facebook Ads agency to stand out on this platform.

On top of using standard adverts, many social media platforms allow you to advertise through promoted posts. These are a unique type of advert in that users can comment, react to them and share them. This itself can be used to further generate leads – users can ask product queries via comments which you can answer, helping to maximize conversions.

Search engines

The likes of Google and Bing allow you to display your search listing at the top of the rankings as an advert. This can be a great way to generate more leads via search engines without having to rely solely on SEO.

Search engine ads are text-only – to get people to click, you typically need to use the right keywords and extensions that will get people interested. Google ads and Bing are two of the most popular search engine advertising platforms.

Video sharing sites

You can also display adverts on video sharing sites like Youtube. These could be banner ads or video adverts that play at the beginning of videos.

For video adverts to be effective, they need to look professional, which often requires hiring a video production company. They should ideally be frontloaded with information that gets people interested in your product – the likes of Youtube allows you to skip adverts after 5 seconds so it’s important that you get people hooked immediately.

Audio streaming platforms

It’s also possible to advertise through audio streaming platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud. These are typically audio-only adverts that play between songs and podcasts.

As with creating video adverts, it’s worth hiring professionals to create good quality audio adverts. Such adverts typically last between 5 and 30 seconds – make sure you can advertise your product effectively within this amount of time.

Webpages

You can also display ads through third-party webpages. These usually take the form of banner ads.

You can use platforms like Google to create banner ads. In many cases, it’s worth hiring a graphic designer to create an eye-catching advert. These adverts don’t always lead to many direct customers, but are good for building brand awareness (which may lead to later customers).

Apps

In-app advertising is becoming increasingly popular. Such adverts usually take the form of banner ads or videos. Since such ads are solely displayed on smartphones and tablets, it’s possible to also take advantage of touchscreen capabilities and create fun interactive game ads. Of course, such ads will be more expensive than regular banner ads and may not be appropriate for all types of business.
