Social media and customer service

With many social media networks celebrating a decade or more online, there is one puzzling question for business owners and consumers alike: why do so many brands continue to ignore their social media presence?

We’ve all seen the accounts in question; the big brands whose Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts have little more than a handful of posts and irregular updates. In a world where the importance of social media is emphasized at every turn, why are so many brands still neglecting this aspect of their business?

Realistically, there’s no easy answer to this; it’s a choice that the brand is making, usually due to lack of resources or lack of time. However, what is clear is that the choice to neglect social media is a choice that no small business owner can afford to follow. Modern brands need social media, for a wide variety of different purposes, including marketing, SEO, and as the infographic below demonstrates, even customer service.

Video marketing on social media platforms has been seen as a strategy, which delivers the best results in terms of engagement, follower count and visibility. This is why, it is important to create as many branded videos and try to get igtv views, Facebook likes and YouTube shares. Creating high-quality videos on social media platforms is expensive and this is something, which brands should filter in when thinking about the costs.

If you are tempted to follow in the footsteps of the brands that are neglecting their social media presence, you will be missing out on a huge range of benefits. Social media is essential for any modern business, and as you can see below, customers both like and expect this form of brand-to-customer communication. If you have yet to introduce a social media strategy to your business, then ignore the bad example set by the brands who have gone without, and do all you can to enjoy the benefits of this vast, varied, and enormously beneficial area.
