Defining Direct Selling

Direct sales is the selling of products in a non-retail setting, such as remotely, at home or online or other locations which are not at a store. Goods and products are sold directly through manufacturers to the sales company, then to the representative or distributor and finally to the customer. They do not have to go through the whole process of using middlemen who are involved in distribution and wholesalers, which is why it is called direct sales.

Most direct sales are associated with party planning and network marketing businesses, but they are also used by B2B companies who wish to target and sell to their end customers.

Types of Direct Sales

1. Single Level

Such a type of direct sale involves face to face and door to door presentations, although it is also possible online. Such salespeople earn their income from commission sales and occasional bonuses provided to them from their company

2. Party- Plan Sales

These direct sales happen in group settings. Hosting events to promote certain products is the main method used to generate leads. The party planning section of this sale comes in when salespeople utilize this model for future business purposes by asking customers to host these parties where the sales are made.

3. Multi Level Marketing

This refers to salespeople focusing on recruiting members instead of the product. This differentiates MLM direct salespeople from the other types of sales since their income is earned through sales commissions and sales made by other business partners  are recruited in the company.

Direct Sales Agendas and Criteria

Direct sales recruitment agencies assist their clients who are looking to get into the direct sales field or want to improve their businesses. They help them understand and enhance their abilities which are expected by them in the following ways

Direct sales people are taught to focus on building their relationships first and make sales second. Of course, making sales is the main part of the job, but they can’t be made until and unless they are able to form a connection with their clients. Establishing a rapport with clients and understanding as well as figuring out solutions to their problems is a direct salesperson’s first priority.

They are also expected to keep records of everything regarding their customers. This includes formulating a database, communicating with clients from time to time and checking in as well as distributing market materials through product updates, texts and email newsletters.

A direct salesperson must always keep everything organized from the get-go. Planning their presentation and remaining punctual leaves a good impression on prospective clients. Also giving them your undivided attention and finding productive and efficient ways to help them with their issues is key.

Building and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues is also important. This adds to the network marketing strategy, and it doesn’t hurt to keep track and learn a little from other colleagues, since using methods which have been beneficial to them might be a good selling tip for you.
