Most folks get health insurance information through their employers. There’s both a bad side and a good side to having an employer handle your insurance.

The pro is that the employer partly pays your insurance premium. The con is you may be stuck with the wrong insurance.

If you’re confused about how to find health insurance, then this article is just what you need.

How to Find Health Insurance That Will Suit Your Needs

You need to be very picky when choosing a health insurance plan for you. Don’t let low premiums fool you, because cheap is sometimes expensive.  When it comes to health insurance, there’s a lot more to consider than just premiums.

This piece will guide you on how to find healthcare that will give you bang for the buck. A good healthcare plan should also cater to a variety of ailments, incidences, and conditions.

Here are ten amazing tips to help you find the best healthcare plan for you.

1. Explore All Your Options First

Your friends and family may have excellent recommendations. You may likely have a fixed mindset on what healthcare plan you’re choosing.

While certainty isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but have you explored all options? There are many types of health insurance plans.

A few common health insurance policies include EPOs, HMOs, and PPOs. The type of policy depends on the type of doctor you’ll see and the premiums you’ll pay.

There are also short term and long term insurance plans. Sometimes short term insurance is a good option, only if you get the best short term insurance plans

Use your current status or career to your advantage when choosing an insurance plan. Depending on your marital or career, you may have a couple of options to choose from. Look at all options before settling on the best option.

2. How Much Subsidy Can You Get on Your Health Insurance?

Not a lot of folks know, but the government can subsidize health insurance. Not everyone, however, can qualify for health insurance subsidies.

If you meet some requirements, you can give the insurance subsidy a shot. There are different subsidies for different groups of individuals.

The subsidy will also depend on the health insurance cost in your place of residence.

Check if your yearly income is four times the federal poverty level. This means an income of about $47,000 for a single individual or $97,000 for a family of four.

Don’t forget to report about your subsidy when you file your taxes. Failure to do so could give put you in the wrong books with the taxman.

3. Check the Coverage of Existing Plans

Two different health insurance covers can work together for your benefit. What’s more, it’s not difficult to find two co-existing plans that benefit you and your family.

Take a marriage plan or a domestic partner plan. Go through each and find out how both plans can work to save you money.

There are also a couple of ways you can coordinate benefits to maximize medical cost refunds. It might rack your brain, but the money you save will be worth the hassle.

4. Find Out How Much You Pay For Your Insurance

You pay monthly for insurance. A payment is called a premium. You must make this payment monthly regardless of whether or not you seek medical services.

Premiums vary with the type of insurance plan, company, and policy. Insurance plans with lower premiums seem like a good idea on the surface. You may, however, dig deep into your pockets later for deductibles.

You may have to pay some extra cash for medical services. The cost will, however, only be a fraction of the usual cost. You’ll also pay a tiny deductible.

A deductible is an amount you pay before your insurance steps in to cover the medical costs.

5. Choose a Proper Health Insurance Marketplace

Most employees have a company health insurance plan. Employees may opt for another health insurance plan.

You are not bound to your employer’s health insurance plan. The public marketplace has many options for you to choose from.

If you choose the public market, be prepared to shell out a bit more cash. Unlike employer insurance, you don’t get partial payments on your insurance for public insurance firms.

6. Check the Out-of-Pocket Costs

The insurance isn’t the only thing you pay for your insurance. You also pay some costs for the medical services offered.

These payments made are out-of-pocket costs. Different health insurance plans have varying out-of-pocket costs.

The deductibles should be a reasonable amount. Find a plan that strikes the perfect balance between premiums and deductibles.

Don’t pay low premiums, but dig deep for the deductibles. The high deductibles essentially cancel out the low premiums.

7. Benefits Are King

To really whittle down your options, compare the benefits of each option. Here are a few things to consider.

  • The drugs covered by the insurance
  • If the insurance caters for maternity services
  • If they can cover you if you’re ill abroad

8. Get an Insurance agent

You don’t need to do all the searching yourself. Find yourself a good insurance agent and take a load off.

Insurance agents help you find the best insurance for your situation. You, of course, have to pay a little fee for the services.

9. Consider Short Term Insurance Plans

You don’t have to settle for long term insurance plus. Most people confess that short term health insurance plans are better than long term plans.

These plans cover major accidents or diseases. They aren’t ideal for maternity or prescriptions.

You also can’t renew them multiple times.

10. Try Insurance Aggregators

Certain websites can do the math for you in your health insurance comparisons. Have a look at eHealthInsurance and let the site do the math for you.

All Set for the Ideal Health Insurance Plan
