Process servers are a key player in the legal process. They’re often the first point of contact that litigants have with law enforcement and they can be instrumental in ensuring accessibility to justice for people who might not otherwise be able to pursue their cases through the courts. Process servers also play an important role as witnesses, serving summonses and other process documents and testifying to their service in court if necessary.

Legal advice business concept

The process servers colorado springs provide an invaluable service to those in this region. It is good to have local process servers that you can call upon who have that local knowledge on how to find people as well as being familiar with the known surveillance techniques of the trade.

They are typically private citizens who are hired by attorneys or law firms to serve processes on behalf of their clients. In some jurisdictions, process servers may be appointed by the court to serve process in cases where the parties are unable to agree on a private process server. Process servers must be over the age of 18 and cannot have any prior felony convictions.

Typically charging by the hour for a job, the fees of process servers must be reasonable. In some jurisdictions, process servers may be entitled to reimbursement for their reasonable expenses incurred in the serving processes, such as travel and copy fees.

Process servers have a challenging job. They must be able to locate the person to be served, and they may need to serve process multiple times if the person being served avoids them. Process servers must also deal with hostile or uncooperative recipients, and they may be required to testify in court about their service of process. Despite these challenges, process servers play an important role in our legal system and help to ensure that everyone has access to justice.

The skills and qualities required by a process server include:

The ability to stay calm under pressure

Process servers will have excellent skills in communication and negotiation. When documents need to be handed over, it is important that process servers have the skills necessary to ensure acceptance of these documents and that the proper legal processes are followed.

The ability to work independently

Often process servers will work out of hours and need to track down someone who is trying not to be found. They must be found, however, so that legal documents can be served on them in time.

The ability to be organized and efficient

The tight legal deadlines will mean that you need your process server to be organized so that you never miss an all-important court date or timeframe for serving a document.

The ability to be discreet

The process server’s role in the legal system is very important, but it can also be very challenging. One of the most important aspects of their job is to be discreet, especially when serving process on high-profile individuals. If the process server becomes too involved in the case or makes things personal, it can compromise their impartiality and potentially damage their credibility.

Legal knowledge

There is no doubt that significant legal knowledge is necessary on the part of the process server so that the person being served the documents does not take advantage of any loopholes and that justice is done.

Process servers will have extensive knowledge of the contents of complex legal documents and what all the wordy passages mean and be able to explain them simply and clearly to the general public.

You will find it invaluable that your process server possesses all of these skills in equal measure. It is not the easiest job and carries a degree of danger too.

If you need to find a process server in your area, you can search online or contact your local bar association.
