We all strive for a better future for humanity, and we need legislative bodies that are willing to make drastic changes. Fortunately, The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is one of those bodies. In a country with 4.3 million disabled people, they are determined to apply the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will improve the lives of many people.

What can be funded in your NDIS plan?

An NDIS Townsville service provider explains the types of “support budgets” that the NDIS can cover for. One is the core support budget; this includes everyday consumable items, low-cost equipment to help your disability and transport. The capacity-building budget helps people better their employment chances, educational opportunities, and living arrangements. The capital support budget is used to fund helpful technologies or improvements to your home that can be beneficial to a person with a disability.

NDIS planning meeting:

You might ask yourself, how should you proceed forward with NDIS? Well, first of all, a meeting will be arranged where a discussion will take place about which NDIS plan suits you best, according to your and your family’s needs. This is extremely important and a crucial step for your NDIS plan management. There are three ways in how your NDIS plans can be managed.

Self-managed plan:

A self-managed plan implies that NDIS entrusts you as self-reliant and allows you to have a large amount of freedom and flexibility in paying for your arrangements. You have the power to choose what exactly is included in your plan and what kind of support you want. You also get to decide who provides for these supports and will have a much wider choice of who you want to work with and employ staff for your needs. You are also given the authority to negotiate so that you get the best value for your money. Along with all this freedom in your self-managed plan, you also have a huge amount of responsibility as compared to the other 3 options that will be mentioned further ahead.

Plan management provider:

If you go with this option, a registered NDIS provider will act as a plan manager, and they will be funded in your plan. The main benefits of using a plan management provider are that they can take responsibility for handling your finance and the administrative duties of your plan, such as selecting your provider, paying your provider for support, keeping an eye on your financial record, and tracking your spending. They can even negotiate on your behalf when it comes to your funds.

NDIA managed:

When your plan is managed by The National Disability Insurance Agency, you can only choose the providers that are listed with the NDIS; unknown providers cannot be used. NDIA will take a lot of responsibility and record your time spent, and will take charge of the book-keeping duties. You do not have the power to negotiate like with the self-managed plan, and you have to pay the fixed guide rates. Your providers will also receive payment from your funding.

The NDIS is a brilliant scheme that has the capacity to improve the lives of those in need of support. Choosing a plan can often be confusing or tedious, but it is something that needs to be done with the right information.
