Did you choose a considerably less expensive internet package but end up paying more than you initially signed up for? Well, you are not alone. This has happened a lot in recent times with increasing internet demand, taxes, and hidden charges added by internet companies.

But don’t worry. You can make some smart changes to your wifi package and mobile data to lower the bill significantly.

Here are some tried and tested fool-proof ways to reduce your internet bill.

1. Compare Deals and Research

You do not have to stick to one internet plan or even one internet provider. Instead, keep your options open and look for broadband deals. Most internet service providers will give lucrative discounts to new customers, which you can take advantage of.

Even in your current internet service company, there could be other low-budget packages that you need to look for. Unfortunately, these types of packages are not always advertised by internet companies as much, but they are offered by almost all network providers.

2. Switch to Smaller Data Plan

We often do not use all the mobile data that we buy each month. So it is better to switch to smaller mobile data plans that suit your needs and save money. One way to do that is by comparing mobile data packages just like you can compare cheap broadband packages.

Around the house, office, and in a lot of public spaces, where a wifi connection already exists, switch to wifi and turn off mobile data completely. A smaller data plan for your phone could be more than enough for the times when you are outside and cannot connect to wifi.

You can download a data usage tracker on your phone to figure out exactly how much data you use on average per month. Once you figure that out, finding cheaper data plans will be easier. iPhones or iPads already have data usage trackers built in that you can benefit from.

3. Take Advantage of Discounts

Internet service providers (ISP) companies have promotions and discounts for their customers, especially those near the holidays such as Christmas, Cyber Monday, Labor Day, and Black Friday.

If you have been a customer for over a year, you can simply call the ISP company and request promotions and discounts on your broadband price. However, most people do not know that they can negotiate their bills and reduce the amount.

Another way to get an easy discount is by ordering a service or a product online. Your internet service company will likely reduce or completely waive the installation or delivery fee.

4. Look for Government Aid

Multiple government assistance plans and packages exist that can be bought on a low budget. If a consumer benefits from an assistance program from the government, they will easily find a low-income internet plan that most companies provide.

Low-income data plans can cost from $5 to $14 per month, which is quite reasonable compared to regular packages. Internet speed depending on the package can range from 768 KBps to 30 Mbps.

5. Buy Modem and Router Bundle

If you read your internet bill carefully (which you should), you will see that apart from the main price of the internet package, you are paying a modem rental fee. This is because most consumers pay the rent separately for the router and modem.

This rental fee may cost up to $132 or more annually. In this case, buying your internet equipment is the best solution to lower your bill. You can save more money if you buy a combined bundle of router and modem.

Just consult your internet provider to ask about the compatibility of the modem device with their internet service. You can use the modem even after you switch to another internet provider.

However, if you cannot buy equipment and have to pay the rental fee, look for modem plus router rent bundles. If you pay their rent individually, it will cost more.

6. Turn off the Wifi Router

This may not seem like much, but turning off the wifi overnight will make you some money through the electricity you will be saving. Whenever you think you will not use wifi for a while. You will see a change in your electricity bill undoubtedly.

Check for internet dropping in and out in your area and stay up to date with an internet outage.

Putting It All Together

Whether you turn off your wifi, reduce internet speed, switch to cheaper packages, or negotiate with internet provider companies, the goal is to get lower internet bills. So why not try all these ways and get as much benefit as possible?

There is always a way to make a smart decision and get your way with things in this time and age. This is one of those kinds of situations. Just try these cost-cutting ways and enjoy your internet surfing and streaming whenever you want without worrying too much about the bill.
