The prospect of starting your own business can be a daunting one. There are many areas that require attention and must be well managed for you to create and grow a business.  Customers are the ultimate sign of a good business; indeed, they make or break them. There are frustrating parts that many business owners and potential business owners endure. It doesn’t have to be this way. The accountants at Contractor unlimited are ready and waiting to deliver you from the brain numbing jargon to the serene and straightforward business management you deserve. Below is a guide to support and assist you in how you could go about setting up a business and the absolutely vital elements to making your set up a smooth success

Systems and process

Having set the scene for your customers you must then turn your attention to what it is you are selling and how you intend to sell it. The business world is crowded with many competitive and unforgiving competitors, so ensuring that you have a plan and a product to make it is essential otherwise you may well fail. Standing out from the competition who may be selling a similar product is a major aspect of successful business, persuading customers to buy from you rather than others is going to be the difference between you and your competitors winning the race for customer approval. Going beyond what your customers could expect is a sure way to improve your standing, providing a positive experience as well as a suitable product is more important than you might think, customers are very aware of the environment and the businesses they are looking to buy from so appealing to them and going the extra mile to seal the deal is strongly advised, yet don’t pester or hurry the customers or they could get irritated and leave without buying. If you are a growing business taking on new staff, ensure that the vales and manners that you are projecting are properly communicated to them so your staff can do as you do.

Networking

The need and benefit of seeking out those people and business with whom you could do business and provide mutual gain for both of you. When networking it is necessary to engage in a positive and friendly manner with the emphasises on what you can do for others and not the other way around. However, this should come later and if you put in the effort to appeal to others, they will return the favour in due course. Networking is a valuable source of both information and resources that you can use to open and embrace new opportunities and prospects for you and your business. managing networking well can make a huge difference in the direction and successes of your business. Remember when networking with potential business clients and others you could also be exactly what they need. Provide a service for them and this will give you a positive impact and reputation for the future with people who could be very useful and provide the means you need to promote and support your business. getting to know people and building a repour with them will take you a long way, as business relationships built on good personal chemistry and friendship can be as important as the businesses themselves.

Business planning

Business plans are delicate and need fine tuning to be most effective. If you will need to borrow money from a bank, then you will need a business plan to support this, if you don’t get a loan form a bank, then you wont need one. Business plans are necessary to set out what it is you expect to achieve and when with forecasts and projections based on information that is available. This information may be limited so your plan should be similarly limited to the information you have, that can then be developed and improved as more information becomes available.

The following areas need to be included in your business plan

  • Costs for the new business, it would be sensible to keep these as low as possible and do not sign up to long term commitments.
  • Your revenue needs, this is for a sole trader
  • Number of customers you will need to acquire and the rate of acquirement, plus how you intend to achieve these numbers.

The marketing plan: the amount of cash required to break even, needs to include the following things

  • The full costs; this is the amount of money you will require to spend to be able to run your business and include your income – bottom line.
  • Full income; this is the amount of turnover you will be generating – top line.
  • Cash flow forecast – this is the combined bottom and top line that will be able to provide a forecast for breaking even, i.e. which month this will happen.

Contractor unlimited can give the guidance and backing you need to make these forecasts a reality or more likely to better them.

Selling

This is the face to face final phase of operating a business, the selling itself. Ideally, you and your product will sell itself. Selling has a reputation of being nasty and difficult but that’s only if it goes badly, which it needn’t. being supportive of your customers and your product is a sure way to unite the two. However, you must do this carefully and with confidence being mindful to avoid arrogance. Many potential customers may remain that potential, but that doesn’t mean they are no longer useful, just being they haven’t bought your product doesn’t mean they can’t spread the word and provide customers to you. Giving every potential customer a positive and helpful experience with your product and your service can be exactly what people need to recommend you to others regardless if they buy or not. Knowing your product and knowing exactly how it can help others is crucial. Failing to promote and understand your product and the customer, then how you can expect to make sales.
