As digital advertising continues to grow at a break-neck speeds, more and more companies are starting to realize its potential against other traditional marketing efforts of today. Despite this, digital advertising faced some serious challenges in 2016, particularly due to the rise of ad blocker usage. Year-over-year, an unprecedented rate of people installing ad blockers on their mobile devices is growing by 90%. This rise in the adoption of ad blockers is also blamed for costing the advertising industry a whopping $22 billion in 2015.
Despite these challenges and threats, the IAB/PwC Internet Advertising Report states that “year-to-date revenues through June 2016 totaled $32.7 billion, up to 19.1 percent from the $27.5 billion reported in 2015”.
