Man working as a welder

There are countless job opportunities abroad, especially for skilled workers, with considerably higher salaries than there are in your home country. Since skilled welders are highly in demand in many overseas countries and are compensated really well, most welders, especially from third-world countries, seek to work abroad.

Are you planning on working overseas as a welder? First, there are things you need to know about getting a welding job overseas, and we will discuss them in this article, so keep reading!

How Do You Get a Welding Job Overseas?

For starters, a welder must possess the same level of skills but with more welding experience than the local welders in the foreign country they wish to work in. Some welders can get welding jobs overseas through recruiters in a foreign country.

Although some welders can get jobs in their own country, they wish to work overseas to earn more money.

Many talented and seasoned welders who have the required accreditations make salaries that are good enough to support their own families in just a few years into their welding careers.

After gaining more experience in the welding industry, they are looking into more extreme welding, such as oil rig welding or underwater welding, as they can earn up to six figures. If you are interested in becoming an underwater welder, you may want to check out https://weldingmaniac.com for more tips and guides.

So, how do you get a welding job overseas that pays this much money? Perhaps completing the necessary training required for welding jobs in the foreign country where you want to work in is the starting point. There are still a number of things you need to do before you can get a welding job overseas, and we’ll get to that.

Requirements to Work as a Welder Overseas

How do you become an overseas welder worthy of the job opportunities that pay handsomely? Well, there is really no steadfast career path you can take to become an overseas welder. Most, if not all, of the requirements, are the same as those of other welders, such as training and certifications.

Additionally, the credentials required for welders who wish to work overseas include more welding experience, and the accreditations may differ for every employer.

A few overseas employers may also prefer to recruit welders with specialized skills such as mastery of heavy machinery, while some recruiters, especially the military, may require welders to go through more training, such as underwater exercise, climbing, and preparing for extreme weather conditions.

What Country Pays the Highest for Welders?

The wages of welders abroad vary depending on where they work. Even within the United States, wages for welders vary from state to state.

But, we are not going to tackle that matter here. Instead, we will find out which countries welders earn the most.

For starters, it’s worth noting that a welder’s salary will depend heavily on the type of welding you will perform. For instance, structural metals work will earn an overseas welder roughly $40,000 or less. However, if you work in a natural gas distribution company, you can probably earn an excess of about $70,000.

In Canada, you can earn as much as CAD 80,000, while Australia pays as much as US$51,000. Tempting, right? Wait till you hear how much European countries pay to welders! Euro countries like Norway and Switzerland pay welders as much as $100,000.

How Much Does a Welder Overseas Make on Average?

The salary depends on the welder’s area of expertise and his number of years in the welding industry. Reports in 2018 show that the average wage for welding jobs overseas was about $65,000, and that was only the average. Overseas welders can make as low as $21,000–again, depending on the welder’s area of expertise–and as much as $145,000.

Moreover, in 2019, the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics BLS showed that the median salary the overseas pipefitters made was around $56,000. American Welding Society AWS discovers that welders with considerable diving skills and experiences as underwater welders can earn much more. The recorded median salary for underwater welders is around $59,000.

Conclusion

The welding industry opens more doors of opportunities, including travel and work abroad. In addition to higher pay, many welders who work overseas gain multicultural experiences.

Now that we have discussed how you can get a welding job overseas and how many overseas welders make as well as the highest paying countries for welders, you can do what you need to do to land a job overseas as a welder.

Also, you can now expect–realistically–how much you can make as an overseas welder. With this information, you can list potential employment destinations abroad based on your expected income there.
