Impressions matter in business and for a good impression to mean something, you need to have a great appearance. Humans are visual as a species – we are drawn to beautiful things and when it comes to your business, you need it looking good if you want to impress anyone. Appearances could break your business if the general opinion of how your business presents itself is a negative one. The good news is that this can be fixed and it’s not going to take too much effort to fix it!

Consider how you present yourself as a person to the world, and then consider how you want people to view your business. This is where appearances are everything. It’s why established businesses who move into running their own store choose retail design agencies to work with them to have the best possible outlook. There are plenty of things that customers are going to value beyond your business appearance, of course, but it all counts toward the way you are viewed as a business. So, why do looks matter? Why should you be doing more about the appearance of your business?

  • You’ll look confident. When you have a polished storefront or an organized interior for your business, you are better equipped to feel confident that when people walk in, they’ll love how things look. Confident appearances give you an aura of confidence as a business leader, even if you don’t feel it in your gut!
  • Appearances offer unconscious bias. People will take one look at your business and decide whether to spend their money there in an instant. This means that you only have around 10 seconds to impress your consumers. If you’re not impressing them, they’re going to walk right on by and not even think about whether you offer anything inside that they really need. Appearances can control whether people walk in the door at all.
  • Recommendations bring business. If your business looks like a dump, no one is going to recommend you to anyone else, and it really does matter. Reviews and word of mouth can make a difference as to whether your business is regarded in a positive light.
  • Your bottom line improves. When you improve appearances, the money you spend in your business also improves. The better you look, the more money you bring in and this is going to keep your business moving forward. It all matters to ensure that you are able to turn a profit. The best image of your business needs to be projected into the world, and you have to pay attention to the way that you look to others for this reason alone.
  • Keeping the best talent. No one wants to work for a business that doesn’t care enough about itself and if you aren’t looking after the way your business looks, no one out there is going to care about working for you. The best talent will pass you by because they would rather work for people who want to care about themselves.
