4 Ways to Boost Efficiency in Your Supply Chain

A supply chain is every step in creating, transporting, and selling or dispersing goods or services. It begins with gathering materials needed to make products or deliver services. The supply chain ends when the intended consumers or citizens receive the commodities.

Supply chain management refers to overseeing the supply chain during all stages of production and delivery. Manufacturers, governments, and companies hire logisticians to take each product through its life cycle and maximize efficiency. With practical strategies in place, logisticians can reduce the time and cost of delivering goods.

1. Use asset management technology.

An effective order management system ensures you can track orders and monitor stock as it moves to different vendors. With asset management software, it’s possible to determine when to place or cancel orders, monitor stock levels in real-time, and track sales and shipping times. Asset management software is also the best way to account for returns.

With barcode inventory software, staff can scan a barcode and review a stock report. The barcode scanner uses Wi-Fi to connect to your inventory data. The inventory data indicates how much stock is on hand and how much is in transit. Employees can correct data using the barcode scanner if the report is inaccurate. When stock arrives, staff can use the rf scanner to update inventory data and reflect the stock your warehouse received.

With asset management technology, your company will have accurate, real-time information about your company’s goods, simply by scanning a barcode. This prevents oversights when placing orders. Staff can use inventory control data to redirect products from one vendor to another based on demand. When stores can receive products from other outlets that are closer than company warehouses, they can meet customer demand faster and reduce the cost of shipping products.

2. Strategize with your suppliers, warehouse managers, and transport team.

Due to the number of steps that make up the supply chain, delivering commodities requires several teams of people who perform distinct tasks. Effective logisticians develop strategies to reduce lag time between teams and prevent issues that reduce efficiency.

Meeting with team managers, administrators, and others involved in the decision-making process is a great way to stay on top of everyone’s needs and challenges. Clarify each teams’ goals and objectives and identify specific challenges that affect their ability to meet those goals. If a team struggles to secure materials or human resources, understanding what caused the issue may shed light on how to resolve it. Collaboration and communication make it possible to brainstorm solutions that can increase production speed and reduce shipping time.

3. Pursue automation and maintain your automated process.

Work with your assembly teams, warehouse managers and transporters to identify opportunities to automate processes. If some processes haven’t been automated, determine why. It may be that insufficient funds are a factor. It’s also possible that generic bots and automated systems don’t perform the specific operations required. Discuss customizing bots to perform specific tasks. Using robots can reduce operating costs. Each team will still need staff to maintain robots and equipment, but robots can increase efficiency by eliminating human error, preventing workplace injuries, and moving more stock simultaneously.

4. Improve your training programs.

A well-trained staff team will outperform staff with minimal training. Employees who receive minimal training are more likely to experience problems while working and lose time correcting mistakes or seeking additional information from other employees or managers. When this happens, productivity declines. Invest time training your staff and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to maximize workplace efficiency.

Customize your training materials to each staff team. Take photographs and video files of their work locations and each step of the processes they perform. The best place to store photos online will offer at least one terabyte of data storage, ensuring you can secure your photographs and video files. Cloud storage allows you to upload photographs from your mobile device, computer, tablet, or Wi-Fi enabled digital camera. Think of an online photo storage solution the way you would think of Dropbox, Google Photos, Flickr, or iCloud, but as a good option with free unlimited storage for your business needs. You can use customized training materials retained in cloud storage to create an in-depth employee training program designed to maximize efficiency.

Delivering goods and services to their intended destination is a supply chain priority. Using asset management barcode technology, strategizing with the teams who make up each step of the supply chain, automating processes, and improving employee training programs will increase supply chain efficiency by reducing mistakes, eliminating lag times, and reducing operational costs.
