For many business owners, the thought of willingly giving away all their industry secrets to their clients sounds nightmarish. Surely that’s an effective way of arming them with everything they need to go it alone without you? How could giving so much information away possibly be helpful to you?

You’d be surprised…

Read on, and let’s look at the top 5 benefits of sharing your industry secrets with your audience!

1. Prove you actually know what you are talking about

The first and most obvious benefit is to simply prove to your audience (and your rivals) that you know exactly what you are talking about.

The best way to establish yourself as an industry expert/thought leader is to join the conversation with real, tangible, irrefutable, actionable information.

2. Build a loyal and engaged following

Want to build a loyal following and keep them engaged? Share the juice!

While your competitors are yammering on to their audience with generic and low-value information that can be found anywhere online, why not share some genuine golden nuggets with yours?

If you consistently share high-value information, you will invariably grow a loyal and engaged following who rely on you to lead the conversation.

3. Demonstrate the work involved

Do you ever get the feeling that nobody truly understands how much time and effort you put into your job?

Take copywriting as the perfect example: to the ‘un-initiated’, it is perceived as being one of the easiest digital marketing services.

What appears to be a short and inconsequential sentence in a social media advert that “surely only took 2-minutes to write” is in fact, carefully constructed, lead-generating word-wizardry that took hours to complete.

This is why giving away your industry secrets can be so valuable: it gives you an opportunity to demonstrate to your audience just how incredibly complicated these seemingly “simple tasks” are.

And by the way… if you think that sharing the information is the same as giving them the keys to the castle, you are mistaken. There’s a gargantuan difference between “knowing how” and “being able to”.

4. Make your audience feel like they’re getting a “peek behind the curtains”

Another great benefit is making your audience feel as though they’re getting a cheeky sneak peek behind the scenes.

It shows that there are no secrets and that you like to operate in total transparency. Today, the modern consumer responds incredibly well to brands and businesses that hold nothing back.

In a world that is littered with misinformation and deceit, be a beacon of honesty and give your audience some high-value truth to chew on.

5. Increase your conversion rates

Ultimately, it’s all about increasing your conversion rates. It might sound counter-productive, but you’d be surprised by how many awesome leads you can gain from sharing your industry secrets in your content creation.

Take an eBook lead magnet as a prime example: in sharing “The Definitive Guide” or “The Hottest Trends” or “Industry Secrets the Experts Don’t Want You to Know”, the more value you give to your readers, the more likely they will be to convert.

That’s healthy lead-nurturing right there!

Yes, some cheap-arse, low-value clients who want to save as much money as they can will waltz off and try to put what they’ve learned from you into practice—aand good luck to them. However, as for the rest; they’re going to realise that:

  • You know exactly what you are talking about.
  • You are dedicated to providing immense value.
  • And that there’s an awful lot of work involved (and that their time is precious).

With that realisation, more and more prospective clients will come back to you for help! After all, you were so generous to them by giving away your high-value information for free, so why would they not consider taking your paid services for a spin?
