When it comes to running a successful blog, you’ll need to ensure your writing is up to the standards you have established according to your blog topic. It can be hard to find a balance between blogging and work life, but hiring freelance writers can help take some work off your plate. 

By hiring freelancers, you can work towards achieving those standards through employing professionals to establish your online voice. In order to find a quality writer, you’ll need to put in some work. It’s easy to spot the difference between an average writer and a great writer. Here are some tips to consider as you begin the process of hiring a freelance writer for your blog. 

Create a simple, but detailed job listing

In order to appeal to potential candidates, post a brief listing describing the position. If a candidate is interested in the listing, they will inquire about it and ask for more details. However, make sure that your listing includes the important information. For example, word count, the desired industry, and the other requirements. By having the important information, you will set apart those who are serious about the position from those who are not. 

Be sure to place your job listing on an appropriate online job board or social networking groups to reach your audience. There are job boards designated for freelance writers. By gearing your job listing towards experienced freelance writers, you’ll ensure that you are placing your job within reach of skilled candidates. 

Consider the ideal candidate

Compile a list of traits you want in your ideal writer: rank which characteristics are most important in your candidates. During your interview, look for instances where these traits are reflected in their answers. These answers will help to inform you about their personality and experiences. 

After the interview, if you think you want to continue with the hiring process, you may want to conduct a background check for jobs to verify past employment. This will allow you to feel more confident about hiring your ideal candidate to represent your business. 

Determine what to pay your writers

One of the most significant determining factors for potential candidates when it comes to freelancing is the pay. Before you post your job offer, consider how much of your budget you are willing to pay towards freelance writers. If you find the perfect candidate, you may be willing to spend the maximum amount of your budget. However, you don’t want to spend a large sum of your budget on a subpar hire. 

Communication is key

As your freelance writers don’t come into the office or interact with your team, you’ll need to ensure that you have an open line of communication. Be sure to constantly check your email to guarantee no questions are left unanswered. Introducing a team messaging app may be useful to provide a platform for streamlined communication. 

Additionally, make sure that you provide feedback for your writers. This may be the most important form of communication between you and any freelancers. In order to establish your expectations with your freelance writers, you’ll need to provide them with feedback about what was done well and what can be improved in the future. Ultimately, employing a freelance writer for your blog is a bit of a trial and error process. It’ll take some work to get on the same page, but it will be worth it to get to the level of error-free quality you’re looking for. 

Freelance writers can be an essential part of the process of running a successful blog. In order to find your perfect freelance blog writer, you’ll need to spend some time looking for the perfect candidate. Although the hiring process for freelance writers can be different than hiring full-time employees, it still requires some thought and effort to find a reliable and professional writer.
