According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the coronavirus can spread from person to person via close contact. That is why people must change their habits in relation to self-care and sanitization. Most countries are following complete lockdown and ‘stay and home’ measures to control the spread of the virus.

If you are into the logistics industry, the chances are that you are following hectic schedules to serve people and communities in this hour of crisis. You might be guided by the expert teams to wash your hands time and again with warm soapy water. But what are you doing to keep your vehicles sanitized? You might be aware of the fact that coronavirus can easily spread via surfaces as well. In this situation, it is better to find reliable methods to maintain your vehicles and ensure they are virus free prior to use. Don’t forget to wipe your door handles, control knobs, switches, steering wheel, and gear shift. Whether you are a solo driver or moving with a team, it is essential to follow precautions for your vehicle sanitization and cleaning.

Cleaning and sanitizing logistics trucks:

The problem with vehicles is that they already contain hard to reach surfaces, including metal, leather, plastic, and rubber materials. Studies also reveal that viruses can also travel  through the air, and when people get in close contact with the affected person, the consequences can be devastating. But at the same time, it is reported that the virus can sustain the objects and surfaces for a longer duration of time. In this situation, you need to find some reliable solutions to maintain the safety of drivers and clients.

Have the right set of tools:

Millions of doctors worldwide are working hard to find a vaccine to treat Covid-19, but they are yet to be successful. The best thing to know is that it is possible to kill the harmful virus using disinfectant. This means you can clean the external and internal surfaces of your truck to maintain safe and clean routines for delivery. Experts recommend using disposable gloves while cleaning and sanitizing your vehicle. You can even find some dedicated gloves for Covid-19, making them even safer than normal gloves.

It is also possible to disinfect your truck by using a common household-based disinfectant. But before using any random product from the supermarket, make sure you read the label to ensure that it is safe to use. Additionally, a packet of disinfectant wipes can be kept in the truck to ensure easy and effective cleaning wherever you go. CDC also recommends many alcohol-based, homemade bleach solutions if the supply of disinfectant is low.

Focus on common touchpoints:

You should clean the surfaces that have come in contact with someone else while traveling on the road. It is not just about key fob, door handles, and steering wheels; you may even need to clean many other interior parts of your vehicle.

Other than this, you should clean seat belts, door buttons, touchscreen, gear shifters as well. Experts recommend disinfecting and cleaning all touched surfaces on a regular basis. The outer portion of the truck may also carry the virus. Although the direct exposure to sun and weather elements may reduce its overall lifetime, it is still better to clean the exterior touchpoints.

Drivers also need to be aware of touchpoints at gas stations, pump handles, and keypads. The hard cash transactions can also be dangerous; it’s best for logistic service providers to work with digital transactions instead, in order to remain safe.

While choosing your disinfectants, it is vital to ensure that they are not too harsh to dry out the vehicle leather. One should look for mild and soft solutions. It is also possible to combine soap with the water to create a safe leather conditioner. Although soap cannot kill this deadly virus, it may reduce the risk of spread.

Suggestions about cleaning and sanitizing agents:

As already discussed, you may find plenty of cleaning agents in the market. However, some of the widely recommended products are observed to contain rich sodium hypochlorite content. This chemical compound is usually the main ingredient of laundry bleach. In case this listed product is not available to the truck drivers, you can create a mixture yourself. The idea is to mix around five tablespoons of bleach into one gallon of water. Or you can simply add four teaspoons of bleach into one-quarter of water. Although this mixture may not have a good fragrance like market-based sanitizing agents, it is good to deal with the virus. Note that you should never mix household bleach and ammonia to create a cleaning agent.

Generally, most of the consumer cleaning products come in ready to use form. But many others are required to be diluted before application. You can follow manufacturer instructions to complete this task. Also, for such cleaning agents, it is better to follow proper ventilation procedures. It would be wise to check the ingredients and terms of usage for your selected product before use. It may help you to make reliable purchase decisions for disinfectants while ensuring your safety.

The bottom line:

Whether you are delivering supplies in the nearby area or are taking it to the far end of the city, logistics teams need to follow proper safety measures during this pandemic. At the same time, they need to keep perfect track of vehicles moving around the city to ensure shipments continue to move both safely and timely. Solid logistics management software can help you perform better during this difficult times. It is smart to connect all your truckers using this advanced software tool so that a perfect track of services can be maintained.

Also, guide your drivers to follow all precautions and wash hands time and again. They need to sanitize vehicles every day to ensure complete safety. In case if you have any trouble like sneezing, coughing, etc. it is better to consult medical health experts as soon as possible. Once you establish the right care practices, you can serve your clients with more safety.
