Free trials are usually a good feature to give the service a try before the real subscription. In other words, a free trial helps you to see whether or not a service delivers what you need and deserves giving it a try. ProtonVPN doesn’t have a long history in the field, but we can tell from the number of its subscribers that it has been a good value for their money.

ProtonVPN was Proton Technologies AG’s next step towards unrestricted and private online presence. Previously, and specifically in 2014, the company announced their ProtonMail product, which was steered towards privacy. ProtonMail, in short, provided secure and encrypted communication for those who might trigger sensitive social or political subjects.

Three years later, the company announced its VPN, ProtonVPN, which also was designed to maintain better privacy when surfing the web. To be honest, ProtonVPN offers many security and privacy features which we find worth mentioning, including:

  • No-log policy
  • Military-grade encryption
  • Secure protocols (IKEv2 and OpenVPN)
  • Kill switch (A security feature that kills the internet connection if your device fails to connect to the VPN network).
  • Transparent privacy policy

That’s not all; if subscribing right away doesn’t sound right to you, you can give ProtonVPN a free trial a try and check its reliability and features. But what does the free trial offer?

Unfortunately, not all ProtonVPN’s premium plans allow a free trial, but if you wish to test the overall service, the Plus plan is a good place to start with; it offers 5 VPN connections, access to more than 1,059 servers, and access to geo-blocked content.

The good news is that ProtonVPN free trial doesn’t require any payments details; all it takes to get the free trial is to fill in a valid email address, a username, and a password. That also means there’s no need to unsubscribe or cancel when the 7-day free trial expires.

ProtonVPN Free Trial vs. Money-Back Guarantee

While ProtonVPN won’t charge you when the free trial expires, it will impose some limitations on its refund. In other words, if you choose to cancel your subscription for any reason, you’ll get a partial refund for the unused days only. For example, let’s suppose that you used the VPN for 10 days and decided to cancel your subscription; you’ll get a refund for the rest of 20 days. Therefore, we suggest reading the terms and conditions before taking any further steps.

Like many other VPN services, ProtonVPN also offers a free version; we’re not very excited about it, though, since it doesn’t have much to provide. Sadly, free versions usually have fewer features than the premium plans, and ProtonVPN’s free version is no exception here; it allows access to 3 server locations only and doesn’t do much if used to unblock geo-restricted content. As a result, it will only be a good option if you want anonymity and nothing else.

Overall, ProtonVPN is what you need if privacy is your biggest concern. But when it comes to other aspects, such as speed, streaming, torrenting, or gaming, other competitors outperform ProtonVPN.
