Going from being an employee and working for someone else to working for yourself and being your own boss is an exciting life change. There can be great joy associated with printing new business cards, creating a new website, and welcoming your first customers.
However, some days can be incredibly tough. You might be tired, overwhelmed, stressed, or feeling isolated. When those new business blues strike, the most challenging days can be made easier by doing some of the following things.
Create a Routine
It’s only natural to feel sad or lost when you go from working a structured 9-to-5 day in an office environment to working from home alone. You might be missing your sense of community with your team, and you might even miss the familiarity of the commute.
However, with serviced and virtual offices, you can gain back that sense of routine and even create an entirely new one. For example, tax accountants can assist with your tax obligations, while IT experts are more than helpful for ensuring your website and software are functioning at their best. You might even explore your options around web developers, marketers, and business mentors to give you the best chance of success.
Communicate Your Feelings
Business ownership is challenging, and over 40% of small business owners say their business is their top personal stressor. You may not think your friends and family understand, but they can at least offer their understanding and their supportive shoulders to cry on.
When you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or tired as an entrepreneur, communicate your feelings to those who love and support you. You might be surprised at how good you feel when you can share your problems rather than bottling them up inside.
Practice Self-Care
Your mental and physical health will thank you when you take care of yourself. Entrepreneurship can be both physically and mentally demanding, but it shouldn’t be all-consuming.
Make sure you take time for those simpler things in life, such as a bubble bath after dinner, a cup of tea and a book on your balcony, or a coffee with friends at your local café. Don’t let your new business venture make you forget about what else is important to you.

While business coaching might not have been something you’ve ever considered before, its potential benefits might make you explore this option sooner rather than later. Business coaching allows you to set and accomplish goals, become more motivated to succeed, and even improve your time management skills.
Many business coaches offer in-person and online sessions, so now might be the right time to explore coaching as a valid way to pull you through those tough days and help you come out the other side.
Working for yourself can be fulfilling and rewarding, but it can also be tough. Get through those hard days by trying some of the tips above. You might be surprised at how impactful they can be.
