Most business owners understand that a flexible employee benefits package is one of the best ways to hire good staff and retain them in the long term. However, too many businesses are still offering employee benefits packages that are outdated and not enough of a draw for their staff.

Be proactive
If you’re serious about making your employee benefits package more modern, then, first of all, you need to be more proactive. It won’t do you any good to wait until employees are pushing for a particular change before you add a new benefit or remove an old one. If you want to be able to hire and retain the best staff, then you need to make a real effort to find out what kinds of benefits they would like and implement them within your company without being asked or pushed to do so.
Don’t be afraid to try something different
There was a time when employees would be happy with basic traditional benefits like health insurance, but these days, things are different and employees are looking for more unique benefits like being able to bring their dogs to work or being able to take mental health days when they’re feeling stressed out, for example. By thinking outside the box and looking at some of the more unique benefits on offer, you can easily compete with other companies and hire the best possible employees. If you think of new benefits that no other companies are offering, but which are likely to be popular with employees in your sector, then you stand an even better chance of attracting the top talent.
Think about upgrading your tech
When it comes to employee benefits, upgrading your tech to include the latest software and apps for them, such as increasing the amount of automation in your business to free up staff time or using insurance fraud software to ensure that no one is abusing the benefits you offer, is really sensible because it will save time and effort for you all, allowing you to remove some of the more boring and arduous tasks, which is obviously a great benefit to everyone involved. It is also likely to improve efficiency in your business, which will save money and help you to generate greater profits too.
Encourage employees to use benefits
A really simple way of making your employee benefits package more modern is to take the time to explain all of the benefits to your employees so that they know how they work and actually encourage them to use them. So many companies dissuade staff from using perks like mental health days or flexible working because it is more convenient for the business that way, but that can put employees off from joining a company, and it is hardly the modern enlightened way of doing things!
