Christmas can be a hectic time of year for businesses in specific sectors. Retail, in particular, will always busy, but some sectors struggle over the festive period to generate interest and sales. This can be particularly true of companies who work in the industrial manufacturing industry and who operate mostly business to business. One company who has figured out a way to maintain the interest in their business over the festive period using clever marketing is EDM Zone, and they have kindly supplied some tips to help others at this time of year.

Make use of social media

Social media is so important to companies in this day and age and particularly a platform like LinkedIn, which is geared towards the business and professional community, can be a fantastic asset. Before deciding what to post, you need to understand your audience and make sure the content is relevant to them. You also want to make sure that your content is engaging and will catch the eye, this is where you can really use Christmas to your advantage.

Be different from your competitors

It’s easy to do things like post photos of your staff in Christmas jumpers or hat and show the Christmas tree you have put up in your office, but for manufacturing companies, this isn’t going to generate inquiries from other businesses. To stand out from your competitors, you need to show what you can do, and Christmas can actually provide you with some great opportunities to do this.

Here at EDM Zone, we specialise in precision engineering, and we know that is what clients and other businesses looking to engage with us will be looking for. Last year and this year we have used our skills and techniques to produce some beautiful Christmas decorations which we give away to members of the public. These decorations have all been made by our staff using the facilities we have on-site.

Generate some excitement

When you do come to post your work on social media or your website, it’s worth generating some buzz and excitement in your followers. You can do this by teasing the project with images not showing the whole item. Video also works really well on social media so think about creating a video for the project. It’s also worth highlighting how many prizes/items you have to give away and some of the best features. Making sure people know how many prizes there are is vital, they will want to know they have a chance to win. For this reason, it’s definitely worth making more than one prize to give away.

Engage with other businesses

Working on projects such as this allows you to work with other businesses. For us, we worked with companies to source the silver and gold used in this year’s angel decoration. This allows you to generate more promotion as it’s beneficial to both companies to show what you’ve produced.

Highlight what you’ve done

If you’re posting on LinkedIn or other social media channels, you want to highlight to the general public and prospective customers how you’ve produced the items and use it as a way of demonstrating your skills. This year with our angel decoration we wanted to highlight our Wire EDM capabilities, because of this we worked on a design that would showcase what we can do and then included the stage in a video showing the process.

Being able to highlight your business through clever marketing and combine it with something like Christmas can be really effective. We had a fantastic response to both last year and this year’s video, and we have found this to be a great way of engaging with a wider audience and generating enquiries for our business.
