Blogging is a great way to share your thoughts with the world and to build an audience around your work. But how can you make sure that your blog is great? Here are our top tips for blogging success.
1. Understand the technology
Whichever platform you’re using to blog, make sure you understand how it works. There’s no lack of information on the internet to help you and taking some WordPress tutorials can make a massive difference to how quickly you get your blogs live while also looking great.
2. Write about what you know
When you write about topics that you’re familiar with, you’ll be able to produce interesting and informative content. It will also be much quicker to write about something that you’re already passionate about.
Don’t be afraid to tackle complex subjects – just make sure that you do your research first to ensure that you only publish accurate information
3. Think about your audience
It’s important to remember that you should be writing for your readers, not for yourself! The more time you spend compiling relevant and targeted content, the better chance you have of building a strong community around your blog.
4. Don’t just rehash old material
Be sure to update old posts with new information or interesting facts that are relevant to the topic at hand. Also, feel free to link back to other resources if it will provide additional value for your visitors – just make sure that all links are high quality and relevant!
5. Write As You Talk
One of the best ways to produce great blog content is simply writing as you talk. This will make your writing more natural and engaging, which will, in turn, keep readers coming back for more.
When a blog is stuffed full of words that no one ever uses on a day to day basis, then the reading becomes hard work, and that’s not going to encourage return visitors.
6. Be Consistent
When it comes to blogging, one of the most important things is to be consistent. This means posting on a regular basis, whether that’s once a week or once a day. When readers know that they can count on your blog to deliver new content on a regular basis, they will be more likely to visit it often.
Of course, there are times when you might not have anything new to write about – in this case, it’s ok to repost old material. Just be sure to update it with further information or insights, and make sure that all links are still active and relevant.
7. Keep it concise
Your blog posts don’t need to be long and drawn-out essays – in fact, shorter posts are often more effective. Try to keep your points clear and concise and remember that less is often more. This will also help you to get into the routine of writing regularly.
8. Use images and videos
Adding multimedia content to your blog posts can be a great way to break up the text and add interest. Images and videos can also help you to communicate your ideas more effectively.
9. Keep it fresh
If your blog is starting to feel stale, mix things up a bit. Try writing longer posts or including more images and videos. And don’t be afraid to experiment with different formats and styles. Ideas for content include:
- Advice posts
- Tutorials
- Interview posts
- Book reviews
- Product reviews
- News and current events
- Compare and contrast articles
- News articles
- Reviews
10. Interact with other blog owners
Sharing your thoughts within a community of like-minded people is a great way to gain insight into the blogging world, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice! You can share valuable information that others will appreciate (and you’ll get all the credit). Alternatively, you could set up an Instagram account if you want to build up your following on mobile devices.
12. Don’t be afraid to publish
If you’re looking for constructive criticism, then look towards your competitors or successful bloggers in your niche for advice. If you’re unhappy with the quality of your blog, why not ask an expert for help?
Hiring a professional copywriter is a great way to get more traffic and to improve conversions on your site (and it will save you time).
13. Engage with your readers
One of the best things about blogging is that it allows you to engage directly with your audience. Respond to comments, ask for feedback, and encourage readers to share their thoughts and ideas.
Do make sure that your website is mobile responsive so that your visitors can engage with you from wherever they are. Also, ensure that you quickly deal with spam, protect your blog with up-to-date security and that you regularly back up all your data.
14. Don’t be afraid to report on something negative
A great blog is a place where there is genuine dialogue between writer and reader – it’s not just someone talking at someone else! That means that you should never shy away from being honest about things that aren’t working or your opinions about controversial topics.
15. Keep writing posts until the well runs dry
Writing isn’t always easy, but one of the best ways to make it easier is to simply keep going no matter what happens! Whether you have tons of ideas or absolutely nothing comes to mind, just try and take a few deep breaths and start typing.
Eventually, the words will start to flow, and you’ll be able to produce great content on a regular basis.
And Don’t Forget…
Building an audience for your blog takes time – so don’t expect instant results. It may take a while before you start seeing significant traffic numbers. But if you stick with it, you’ll eventually be rewarded with a loyal following.
