Do you feel as though you are constantly being passed over by employers when you are looking for a job? It’s fair to say that the job market these days is competitive in virtually every industry and sector. However, there could still be some roadblocks that you need to break down here which could ensure finding your dream position on the market is a little easier. Let’s explore a few of these possibilities. 

Problems On Your CV

It’s possible that your CV is the issue that is preventing you from getting a job on the market. According to the latest polls, employers will spend just sixty seconds reading a CV before they decide whether they want to hire an individual for a position. That doesn’t give you a lot of time to wow or dazzle them. That’s why you need to make sure that your CV is short and to the point of providing all the key information that employers need. It’s crucial that you think about the details that are going to be important to them. This could include past experience as well as your key skills. It’s also worth customizing your CV to guarantee that it fits the job that you are pursuing perfectly. This shows an employer that you are driven and that you won’t simply pursue any position on the market. It demonstrates you know what you want. Ideally, you should keep your CV under two pages, however, there are exceptions to this. For instance, your USP could be the level of experience you have. If that’s the case it makes sense to accentuate this point with multiple pages. 

Find Your USP

Since we mentioned a USP, it’s worth considering whether you have one that an employer is going to take notice of. We have already mentioned that the job market is incredibly competitive these days. As such, you need to make sure that you are working to stand out amongst the crowd. Your unique selling point or USP is key to this. A USP can be anything but it has to be something that an employer would be interested in or that would make you a valuable asset.

A great example would be the ability to speak multiple languages fluently. These days, the world is a melting pot and it’s likely that some of your customers will have a native language that is something other than English. If you can easily communicate with these customers and key clients you’re always going to be useful to a potential employer. 

Another USP could be your network. If you already have a solid level of connections in the industry to key individuals employers are always going to want to get you on board their team. Once you figure out what your USP is, you will be able to use it to your advantage when you are pursuing a role. 

Red Lights

It is possible that you have a few red lights that are stopping an employer from considering you as a possible hire. There are quite a few red lights that you do need to watch out for here. For instance, there might be an issue that is stopping you from driving. If you can’t drive, then an employer could assume that there’s going to be an issue with punctuality and accessibility. That’s why if you have lost your driving license you should consider how to get it back. You might want to consider speaking to a hardship license lawyer if it’s essential that you get a job. 

Another red light would be a bad reputation with past employers. You might think that if you had a negative experience with a past employer, you can avoid this issue by not putting them down as a reference. However, don’t be surprised if an employer completes their own investigation into your past. 

Finally, it could be a red light on social media. It’s possible that the issue is that you don’t have any presence on social networks. This can be worrying to an employer as it suggests that you don’t have a professional network to fall back on. It’s particularly relevant for certain industries like marketing and journalism.
