On the surface, Faraday Café didn’t differ from many other cafes, but the filling is very special: a metallic Faraday cage made of conductive material, which blocks all electromagnetic fields inside the café. And that means not only no access to the Internet but also no cell phone service when you’re inside the café. In short, complete relaxation and an ideal place for those who dream at least for a while to hide from the intrusive world and escape from the ubiquitous technology. Thus, the Faraday Café became the first café to intentionally block signals, freeing visitors from the techno-brain.
As conceived by Julian, Faraday Cafe without Internet was an action of Vancouver residents voluntarily giving up their means of communication over a cup of great coffee and a heartfelt conversation.
Faraday Cafe is an experimental, temporary coffee shop project that was supposed to end on July 16, but that date was pushed back by a week because of the project’s excessive popularity among the local population.
