Are you facing the fight of your life trying to recover proper compensation for an injury? It can be tempting to hire the first big and busy legal team that you find after a quick search. Are they actually too big for your particular legal case? Sometimes a firm that maintains a smaller caseload may actually be the one that best suits your needs.

Big Law Firms mean Big Payrolls and High Overhead

It may seem intuitive to hire a large law firm that employs a number of attorneys, paralegals, runners, receptionists, and clerks. It looks impressive and they will work through a large number of cases every year. It also means that the large firm will have to constantly accept new cases to keep all those people busy. A fast settlement nets a quick payday that results in a happy payroll department, but it might not be the result that the client really needs.

When Fighting Corporate Machines Demands a Different Approach

If you suffered an injury at the hands of corporate bureaucracy, it will take more than a room full of clerks to reach a ruling that properly compensates you for all your losses. There must be a thorough understanding of what policies and procedures were followed that resulted in an injury and a failure to care for you as an employee or member of the public. There must be a willingness to delve through files, interview everybody involved, and stand up to the big-name corporate officers and legal team. A busy law firm may choose to do less research and will be happy to come to a settlement that may not fully pay for your troubles.

Fewer Cases on the Docket Translates to more Focus on You and Your Challenges

When you work with a legal team that carries a small caseload, like one headed by Attorney Matt Stoddard, you can expect a more personalized approach.  The attorneys will not be distracted by presenting another case in court while still building the groundwork for yours. You will have the chance to sit down with your lawyer and get a better understanding of their personality and how they will be fighting on your behalf.

A large firm will likely have a clerk or paralegal conduct the initial interviews with you. You may only get to spend a few minutes with the actual attorney that will represent the case in court. It can leave you feeling like you are just a small cog in a giant machine, much like the company that you are fighting.

Personal Injury due to Negligence takes Time to Prove

Large insurance companies and corporate attorneys often refer to charts and statistics when determining just how much they are willing to pay in an injury case. An overburdened law firm may encourage you to accept a finding that follows those charts. But when you got hurt or harmed through willful negligence on the other party’s behalf, your attorney needs to delve deep into the background of the situation.

A smaller lawyer like Attorney Matt Stoddard can devote more time and focus to unearth the situation that resulted in your injury. There may be mitigating circumstances that could result in a much larger claim being paid out. While the extra time spent researching may not be worthwhile for a large firm balancing their own books, your smaller firm reaps the rewards along with you.

A Small Caseload does not Always Indicate Lack of Ability

In certain circumstances, a large caseload may show that the law firm is just really good at reaching a fast settlement for the majority of their clients. Before signing on with a busy law firm, ask to see the results of their cases over the past year. If you see a long list of small payouts all settled out of court, you can expect that your case will end up at a negotiation table and a fast check.

However, when you are facing a mountain of rising debt due to massive medical bills, a lifetime inability to earn an income, and a family that is suffering, a quick check will offer no real relief.

A smaller firm that focuses on personal injury law and routinely handles cases that are a result of negligence or willful misconduct may log fewer cases. But, in a successful small law firm, you will also see a significant increase in the average settlement.

Take Your Own Time to find a Law Firm Worthy of Your Trust

Before you decide which lawyer or law firm you want to hire, make sure that their goals and daily operations are in line with your current needs. If all you want is some assistance in finalizing the insurance payment for a minor fender bender, that attorney from downtown that runs all those TV ads may be all you need.

But, if you need substantial support in fighting back against big money and big business, you could benefit from the level of dedication and personalized service you will receive from a firm like Attorney Matt Stoddard’s that carries a smaller, but high profile caseload. The results are proven in the bottom line.
