When doing commercial dryer vent cleaning, most homeowners do not consider the dryer vent. Dirt and lint build on the dryer vent and continuing to use a dirty vent can lead to failure of your machine and fires. Dryer vents connect the interior of the home to the exterior, and they can be an entry to insects, and you need to hire commercial dryer vent cleaning services regularly to clean them.
The dryer vents are made with a durable material that the hot moisture cannot destroy. The material is heat resistant because the vent exits hot air from the dryer. Since vents are open to the outside to allow the hot air out, they have guards to prevent insects and other small animals from entering the house. So, what should you know before calling for commercial dryer vent cleaning services?
1. Understand The Type Of Vent
Knowing how different vents are build will help you in choosing the right dryer vent. When choosing a commercial dryer vent, you can consider either indoors or outdoors type of vents.
Most homeowners go for outdoor vents because they are common and also give more safety. Outdoor vents are attached to the dryer through a six-inch hose. Outer air comes from the dryer and exits through the hose to the vent.
Some dryers are not built with an external vent. Their dryer vent connects to the machine and is mounted to an interior wall. However, the interior vents are only found on electric dryers. They cannot be installed on clothing dryers that use gas because these dryers release carbon monoxide.
2. Know The Parts Of Your Dryer
There are two parts of a commercial dryer vent. The long pipe that connects the dryer with the vent is called a hose. The cover is found on the duct, and it prevents crawling insects and small animals from entering the house through the vent. Since the cover stays closed, when hot air from the machine comes, it forces it to open and let moisture out.
3. What Material Is It Built With
Dryer hoses are made with an aluminum or steel foil that is flexible. It is easy to bend these pipes from the dryer to the vent. Since lint is highly flammable, these hoses are also fire resistant, and they can withstand a lot of heat. Plastic vents can easily melt due to hot moisture and catch fires, so it is advisable not to use them.
4. How Long Is The Vent?
Dryer vents are 6 or 7 inches long and have a 5-inch opening. The technician mounts the commercial dryer vent on the wall through a mounting plate and is secured with four screws. You can also choose different shapes, from louvered vents to angled vents.
5. Are The Vents Safe?
Dryer vents carry a lot of dirt, including dust and lint, which can clog them. They, therefore, need regular commercial dryer vent cleaning to prevent clogging the exit. Lint is highly flammable, and it causes more danger if it continues to build upon the vent. You should clean the vent once or twice a year to remove build-up lint.
