For a while, some people considered web design to be a superfluous expense, an unnecessary extravagance that had little effect on the success of their business.
We now know that to be absolutely false. User experience design, or UX, has a massive impact on how existing and potential customers perceive your brand; a cheap, unintuitive website can be massively detrimental to an otherwise exemplary product or service.
In this article, we speak to the Webheads team to take a look at some web design tips to help you bring your online presence up to speed in 2022.
Simplicity
One of the most important rules of web design is simplicity. Your website needs to communicate certain information, but it shouldn’t read like a book. Each message you want to convey should be thought about in-depth and simplified until it’s empty of unnecessary padding.
Most of us have a relatively short attention span and want to be told things in a straightforward manner. A website laden with text will be confusing and overwhelming; finding the right balance between information and a pleasing aesthetic is important, and a good web designer should be able to help you find that equilibrium.
Focus on CTAs
CTAs should be present in a lot of your content. After providing valuable information, you should inform visitors on your site of a way in which you can help them. It’s important that you don’t overdo it. However, if it sounds over the top, a CTA can actually drive people away.
Pushing your product or service too hard can have a negative effect, and it’s important to be sensitive to how prospective clients will read each CTA. A good copywriter should be able to help you to fine-tune your calls to action, achieving a balance between subtlety and clarity.
Mobile optimisation
An increasing number of people are primarily navigating the internet on their smartphones. As smartphone technology progresses, a focus on mobile optimisation will become increasingly important. Mobile optimisation is also important for SEO; a website that’s unappealing for mobile visitors will likely have a higher bounce rate, one of the many factors that Google takes into consideration when ranking content and sites.
Easily navigable
Part of an effective UX design approach is to facilitate easy site navigation. Creating intuitive links between each part of the website will encourage people to spend longer exploring the content it contains, providing that content is engaging and relevant.
While anyone can make a basic website using services like Wix and WordPress, an expert in web design will be able to ensure that aspects like navigation are properly thought out, creating shortcuts that beginners at web design might otherwise struggle to create themselves.
