After customers buy your products online, the first thing they’ll see is the package when it’s delivered to their front doorstep. Whether you’re looking for a visually appealing design or a simple yet sturdy package to prevent damage during transit, the shipping and packing materials you choose represent the brand of your small business. Stock up on these necessary packing materials for your small business to prepare for your next order.

1. Sturdy Shipping Boxes

A durable shipping box can hold multiple products and withstand heavy loads without tearing as easily as padded envelopes might. Choose from a selection of colors, from traditional brown to vibrant hues like blue, red, or pink.

Depending on the size and shape of your products, it may be convenient to have a variety of dimensions on hand. Your items should fit snugly in your boxes to minimize movement during transportation, so measure your products to determine what sizes will work best before you stock up.

2. Cushioning Materials

No one wants to receive a damaged product after anticipating its arrival. Protective cushioning such as bubble wrap, packing paper, or foam prevents sliding and exterior damage to your products during the shipment process.

Bubble wrap can absorb almost any impact and protect breakable items, while crumpled packing paper will fill the space in the box for lightweight goods and safely keep them from shifting during transport. These necessary packing materials keep your small business merchandise intact despite any inevitable bumps along the way.

3. Protective Packaging for Electronics

For small businesses shipping electronic items, remember to surround each product with anti-static bubble wrap and insulated packaging. Specialty padded envelopes can also preserve gadgets that can fit into smaller packages. Protect your electrical components in transit, and make sure they arrive without any damage caused by physical shocks or static electricity.

4. Heavy-Duty Packing Tape

Even the sturdiest box can come undone without reliable tape. An open box can lead to theft and other damage during transit. Use heavy-duty packing tape that stays secure despite harsh weather. Seal the seams of your box thoroughly to ensure nothing will fall out during shipping.

5. Shipping Labels and Stickers

A clearly printed, scannable shipping label will get your package to the right destination. Invest in good-quality labels with strong adhesive backing to mitigate peeling or fading. You might also consider using “fragile” or “handle with care” stickers to signal special handling requirements.

6. Branded Packaging

Branded packaging, such as custom boxes, tissue paper, or even thank-you cards, can leave a lasting impression on your customers. Additional freebies like stickers or a coupon on a future purchase can also increase your revenue and help you build a lasting relationship with your clientele.

As you design your packaging, incorporate your business’s colors, font, and other branding to make your box or envelope stand out in the mailbox. It’s a subtle yet eye-catching way to promote your brand and make the unboxing experience memorable.

Whether you sell fragile, handcrafted keepsakes or soft, plush home goods, you’ll need to effectively prepare these materials for transit. Your package may encounter a long journey ahead, filled with harsh weather conditions and lots of movement in the back of delivery trucks. Preserve your products with secure packaging so that your clients are delighted by their orders.
