With the march towards net-zero emissions well underway, businesses need to look at renewable energy resources.
But here’s the thing; much like the improvement of the electric cars from the Prius to sporty Teslas, the renewable energy sector has been rapidly developing.
When businesses think of renewables there is a false consensus that they are worse. That’s not necessarily true anymore.
And in a few more years, maybe a decade or so, that is going to be totally false. If the current trend continues, then renewable energy will become just as – if not more effective – than conventional energy.
So, when it’s time to swap to renewables remember that it’s more than just a move to bolster your reputation, you can get better energy for less.
If you consider the following, you might just be able to hold that reputation as a financially responsible business while optimising your energy.
Consider Your Situation
Don’t waste resources on renewable sources that aren’t suited to your business. Consider the following;
Where are you based? Are you on the seaside with some strong breezes? Then consider wind energy applications.
Maybe you are down south where the sun shines every now and then? In that case, consider solar panels.
If you’re on the very grey west coast of Scotland and are seeking renewable energy, you have a unique opportunity. You will need to go for something that works with the local environment and so wave power could be a valid option.
You need to consider the factors around you and the surrounding environment to ensure that you are receiving your renewable energy from the most efficient source.
Look Past The Obvious
Solar power, and maybe wind power, are the two juggernauts most minds go to when they think about renewables.
And yes, they are effective and becoming increasingly more effective as well as accessible. But consider looking a little deeper into the options available to you.
There’s so much more to renewables. As a rapidly growing industry, they have so much more to offer than supplementary energy attachments.
Need an example? You can actually provide clean energy that’s more effective than conventional means with Star Renewable’s geothermal solutions.
These neat pumps can provide your business with industrial heating and cooling. Geothermal pumps can bring a capacity ranging from 500kW to 8000kW to your power options.
They are efficient, effective, and are well concealed under your business; so, you don’t even have to compromise on how your business’s property looks.
There are more and more options like this popping up regularly. So, when looking into renewables, don’t just scratch the surface, really delve into the options available to you.
Consider The Little Changes Too
Net-Zero is as much about reduction as it is the eradication of carbon emissions. If you aren’t ready to make the big changes just yet, then consider the small ones.
Paint the inside of your workspace with semi-gloss paint; something that reflects light more effectively so that you don’t need to use your lights as much.
Or get a smart meter installed. It’s easy, usually cheap or free, and helps you stay on top of consumption. This can help you identify where you may be overspending, which helps reduce your carbon footprint. But this can also cut your costs of doing business more generally.
Lastly, why not consider getting on the Cycle To Work scheme? This can cut fuel costs while investing in your employees in a way that can make a real difference. It can help both the environment and the overall well-being of your team.
There are so many routes to take, so look at your business, consider what works best and start your own journey to net-zero.
