Since the pandemic struck the world and turned everything on its head, people everywhere have been asking questions about how they live their lives and what’s important. This often raises the issue of your career and whether or not you are truly happy working in your industry long term. If you are looking for a new career in 2021, here are some items to consider.

Analyse Skills and Interests

If you’re looking for a new career in 2021 chances are you are dissatisfied with what you have now; either that or you intend to leave full-time education in the spring or summer and take your first step on a lucrative career path.

Whatever the reason you need to consider the ‘why’ when thinking about a career to pursue. Is it solely for the money, the lifestyle, or are you seeking more job satisfaction. To achieve this you need to have a strong idea of your personality and the tasks you perform well, and easily.

Research Career Paths

After you have discovered what kind of personality you have and what you’re good at, you should have an idea on career paths that suit those core skills. Narrow your options down to no more than five and begin to research them in more depth.

Researching a career path involves finding out the main companies and brands in that industry and what possibilities there are for salaries and career progression. To help you get started with this process visit Silven Recruitment.

Reach out to Employers

Reaching out to employers means bypassing the usual channels for recruitment in some cases. Instead of waiting for an opening to come up you decide which employers would suit you best and create resumes and cover letters tailored to them.

It’s very common these days to reach out to employers with unsolicited offers. You will find they are responsive to your inquiries. They may not hire you right away, but if you present yourself in the right way they will certainly hold on to your contact details.

Upskill With Training

Just because you have an undergraduate degree doesn’t mean you are qualified for the jobs you want to do, or even the ones you’re most suited more. Most industries have skills you will need to develop to be effective. These skills may not have been taught in your university course.

If there’s a career path you want to follow but you don’t yet have the skills to apply, it’s time to get active and skill-up. You can find some excellent courses online that will teach you the pragmatics of a job and give you the confidence you need to apply and find success right away.

Revise Your Resume

Many people think that a resume is not as important as it once was. So much of the recruitment process is now done through an online application, so why spend time and energy coming up with a resume that you won’t use. It’s true that resumes are used less often now in the digital world but they still provide you and your future employers with an overview and a starting point. Creating a resume helps you to organize your career ideas into a useful shape that can be aligned with everything else in your career prospecting.
