Magnetic Car Signs

Getting your brand noticed is often a challenge. There are lots of options available, but talking to a company that offers magnetic car signs Brisbane is a great way to get started! Magnetic car signs are a budget-friendly way to stick your branding on a vehicle. They’re especially useful for small businesses with one or two vehicles, or large businesses that don’t want to invest in expensive wraps for the entire fleet. The only sticking point is that magnetic car signs have a bit of a reputation for damaging paint. We’re going to look at some of the common problems with magnetic signage and what you can do to protect your car from damage!

What Are Magnetic Car Signs?

Magnetic car signs are large magnets with signage printed on them. They’re usually designed to be stuck on a large, flat surface of your car, like the bonnet or the door. The major benefits of car magnets are that they’re affordable and can be removed or applied whenever you like. That means if you use your car for personal and business purposes, or if you’re looking to sell the vehicle, the sign can be removed at any time! If you want to invest in car signage but aren’t ready for the expense of something like a vehicle wrap, magnetic signs are an effective, affordable, and simple way to get your brand noticed.

Potential Problems with Magnetic Car Signs

Magnetic car signs are simple, budget-friendly, and easy to use. That said, they are sometimes known to damage paint, and owners may run into a few common issues if the sign isn’t properly cared for:

1. Car signs flying off while driving – A quality magnetic car sign shouldn’t fall off the car. The magnet is strong enough to hold on at speeds of 100 km/h or more. If a car sign falls off, it’s usually because the edges are damaged or because there is air and moisture trapped underneath. Keep your sign in good condition and consider asking for a design with rounded corners to help prevent damaged edges.

2. Car signs scratching paint – Car signs don’t scratch the paint. It’s the dirt that gets trapped underneath that’s the problem. This is simple to avoid by regularly cleaning both the car and the sign. Once clean, it’s also a good idea to wipe down both surfaces with an alcohol-based cleaner to remove any grease or soap residue.

3. Car signs sticking to the car – Extreme heat may cause your magnetic car sign to get stuck to the car. This is usually due to the adhesives in the sign melting and slightly bonding with the car’s surface. To avoid this, regularly remove the sign for cleaning, and avoid using magnetic car signs in extreme heat.

4. Wrinkled or creased signs – Car magnets are designed to be taken off whenever you want. That’s handy, but it’s important to store the magnet perfectly flat when not in use. This prevents creases or wrinkles that may cause the sign to fall off while in use. Consider storing the sign on a flat shelf or sticking it to the side of your fridge for safekeeping.

How to Protect Your Car’s Paint

Companies offering magnetic car signs Brisbane often hear from customers who are concerned about the problems we mentioned above. While those things are all possible, proper care means your magnetic signs won’t damage your car’s paint at all. Here are a few tips on how to protect your car’s paint while using magnetic signs:

  • Wash the car regularly – Dirt that gets trapped under the sign is the cause of scratched paint. Regularly washing your car (and the back of the magnetic sign) is the easy way to avoid this.
  • Clean the area with alcohol – If you want to go the extra mile, wipe down the magnet and the car with an alcohol-based cleaner. This will remove grease and any soap left over from the washing process.
  • Avoid dragging the magnet – Want to reposition your sign? Peel it all the way off and start applying it from scratch. Dragging a sign only increases the chance that trapped dirt will scratch the paint.
  • Stick the magnet to a flat panel – Magnetic signs should be kept as flat as possible, both on and off the car. Choosing a flat surface (slight curves are okay) will prevent the magnet from falling off while in use.
  • Avoid direct sun – Harsh weather is the enemy of all signage. To keep your magnet looking good for longer, avoid leaving it in the hot sun. For example, if you’re parking your work vehicle up and going on a two-week holiday, remove the sign and store it inside before you leave.
