Many people are willing to learn about new job opportunities, though a few of them are active job seekers. This is why most companies tend to adopt talent sourcing and actively search for the candidates they need on the payroll.

The truth is that if you desire to hire the best candidates at your company, then you have to understand the importance of talent sourcing so that you can implement the right strategies to find and hire people who may or may not even be looking to find dream jobs. This post discusses what you need to know about talent sourcing.

Understanding talent sourcing

It’s worth mentioning that talent sourcing usually starts before recruitment and hiring. It refers to the process of identifying qualified candidates who have the right skills to fill open roles. These people also need to have a good cultural fit for your company. Besides finding top talent, it can also involve networking with them, researching them, and changing them to become job applicants.

That said, there is a difference between talent sourcing and recruitment. In most cases, these two processes have a symbiotic relationship. Talent sourcing is often more active, meaning hiring managers seek out potential job candidates.

On the other hand, recruitment is more passive. It can involve reaching candidates via job postings, referrals, and ads to inform them that there are open positions that they can apply. Simply put, talent sourcing starts before recruitment and assists to establish a list of potential candidates.

The benefits of talent sourcing

Talent sourcing can reduce the cost and time of hiring. In most cases, it may take at least three to four weeks to fill an open position. Also, a hiring manager doesn’t spend a lot of money on expenses compared to recruitment. You should remember that there is a lot of money and time involved in the recruitment process. Therefore, talent sourcing can lower these costs because you tend to have a list of qualified individuals to fill the open positions when available.

The employer brand for a company is its reputation for offering the best place to work. Talent sourcing can play a crucial role in developing an employer brand. When your company is interested in a candidate and keeps them informed of initiatives, open positions, employee stories, product updates, and many more, the passive candidates can sometimes become interested in your company.

The potential candidates can decide to share their positive perceptions with colleagues, social networks, and friends. This strengthens and spreads your employer brand effectively through word of mouth.

Remember that the people these potential job candidates desire to hear from tend to be the employees already working with your company. This is because they can imagine what it would be like to work at your business premises. Therefore, it’s a good idea to allow all your employees to share their experiences on social networks. There is a good chance that these passive candidates can decide to work for your company.
