Running a business is always likely to be a complicated and tricky thing that requires paying attention to a wide variety of different details. There are financial management issues to consider, marketing and brand decisions to be made, and much more besides.

While certain practical tasks are inevitably necessary in the context of a business, such as sourcing Compatible Printer Toner for the office and conducting market research, however, many of the factors that contribute to professional success have more to do with the kinds of habits you implement in your daily professional routine.

The writer Charles Duhigg has talked about the idea of “keystone habits,” in his popular book “The Power of Habit.” By his definition, keystone habits are habits that naturally trigger a cascade of other habits and lifestyle changes — either for better or for worse.

Here are just a few ways in which keystone habits may be the key to improving your business.

Keystone habits can cause cascading positive change without the need for micromanaging

One area where many entrepreneurs end up getting themselves into trouble is with regards to micromanaging — or attempting to micromanage — many different aspects of their businesses at once.

This kind of micromanagement often ends up contributing to burnout, and can disrupt some of the processes that should ideally be handled in a more delegated way within the business, particularly as it grows and develops.

Keystone habits by definition have an impact above and beyond the habits themselves. By focusing on getting just a handful of keystone habits right, you can potentially transform your business without needing to micromanage.

Keystone habits can help to boost consistency day by day

Consistency tends to be one of the most important things for any business, and for any entrepreneur, to get right in order to succeed professionally — especially over the long term.

If you’re highly productive and focused one day, but let things completely collapse in on themselves the next, you will likely struggle to make consistent progress or to maintain momentum, or for that matter, even good customer relations.

Keystone habits add a note of consistency to each day. If you can just track and stay on top of a select core of habits, you will keep momentum going in the right direction in your professional life.

Keystone habits can unlock opportunities along the way

Keystone habits are partly so remarkable because of the fact that they help you to consistently move your business in a fruitful direction, even when you don’t necessarily know what the next step that you should take is.

One consequence of this is that sticking with powerful keystone habits can unlock and reveal a lot of powerful opportunities to you along the way that you may well have missed altogether under different circumstances.

Trying to calculate the best approach from A-Z can naturally be very daunting. But if your habits continually contribute to incremental growth and improvement, opportunities will naturally arise from this.
