The time has finally come when renewables and renewable energy is mentioned in the news nearly every day. Countries’ energy policies are finally centred around net zero emissions and governments are finally taking action. However, solar power in a residential and small commercial setting has been booming for years. The positive impacts of solar are vast and if you don’t already have solar, you need to ask yourself why?

In this article we cover off 3 key ways solar not only can save your small business money but help make your business more money.

1. Energy Savings

The number one-way solar saves you money is by offsetting the amount of energy you take from the grid and supplying your business with clean, green cheap power.

Solar works by taking energy from the sun’s rays, turning it into electricity via the photovoltaic effect when it hits your solar panels and then feeding it into your business for you to use. Your business will always use the energy from the solar system first. Any excess will be fed back into the grid and if you are using more power than your system is generating you will only need to buy the difference.

The initial capital expense related to buying solar is often paid back in just a few years which means you can have a cash flow positive investment very quickly. Anything from one person running a small mechanic to a large manufacturing facility the costs VS the savings nearly always stack up.

Imagine you could make an investment that generates you steady, reasonable income, is cash flow positive in only a few years and has a warranty that guarantees its performance! That is solar.

2. Positive Customer Impacts

More and more, consumers and customers are being more and more vigilant around understanding the businesses they are dealing with and what their impact and environmental policy is. Consumers are much more conscious of their carbon footprint and what world they are leaving behind for their children and grandchildren.

When you get solar for your small business, the first thing you should do is tell the world! Every document that you send out, every quote that gets emailed, every newsletter you send should say that “this business is powered by solar”.

The positive brand impact you will have when people see you care about the environment and you are aware, or businesses impact will be immense. This not only will work for new customers but will help you retain your existing customer base.

3. Predictable OPEX

One of the biggest challenges of running a small business is cash flow. Bills never seem to stop coming in and they only seem to get bigger. When you get solar for your small business, you are handing instant predictability. Once installed you have access to your solar systems analytics. This means you can see live, how much power you are generating, using and buying.

This means when bill time rolls around the days of bill shock are gone. You will know nearly to the cent what your bill will be plus, due to you consuming your own energy you have generated your bills will be less than usual. Once the system is paid off (if you buy it with finance) your total OPEX will have taken a massive positive hit thanks to your solar system.

Thanks to huge increases in uptake, massive growth in the industry and significant technological advancements, the positive impacts of solar are better than they have ever been. Not only will you see your bills reduce, but you will also be able to reduce your carbon footprint, leave a better world for future generations and even impress your customers.
