The consistent advent of time has made the world witness a series of professions now making considerable statements in the world. In the past, thousands of people qualifying for a specific educational qualification were involved in this profession. But soon, the operational formalities started to go digital, and we lost touch with the essence of this profession.

When talking about a profession offering maximum salaries and reputation in the society, there was nothing to beat court reporting and stenography. As a result, it came out as a massive success with rapid development chances making it progressive in many other ways. The only reason why court reporting was such a hotshot is the consistent workflow of judicial authorities and different legal systems in the city or state.

The truth is that the profession of court reporting and stenography started with the writing profession. In the ancient times of Mesopotamia, the Sumerians crafted a unique culture of writing which used to be referred to as cuneiform. The word ‘cuneiform’ was extracted from the Latin word ‘wedge.’ It was a unique form of writing involving pictographs crafted in clay.
The profession has had several designations ranging from the clerical staff members to the supervisors. One of the essential designations in the court reporting was the Deposition Reporter, who used to hold the critical responsibilities of taking down the verbatim records. Their primary role is towards the deposition of any case.
What is involved in this professional type?
This profession’s concept and overall process involved two systems: running script and cursive or grass. These scripts were an effective medium of communication between the officials of the court reporting profession. It was considered as an official language to transcript the formal messages and notifications.
Also, it encompassed some abbreviations which are often understood and written by a calligrapher writer without lifting the brush.
With time and consistent changes in this profession, now many of us read, write and see stenographer and court reporting with a western touch changing the literal writing pattern of Cicero and Romans.
